THE SOUTH DOWNS
These new paintings are the result of two days drawing and painting high up on the south downs in Brighton, England. I left with countless drawings and paintings on paper, recording the movement, colour, energy, light and sound from being immersed in this special place. These drawings and paintings informed the making of this collection back in the studio.

SHAPING TIME

THE CLIMB
The landscape was vast and dramatic. The sky seeped into the land and the earth reached up to the sky. BREATHE AGAIN
I watched the fading light turn clouds white, pink and orange. That afternoon, on the hills, I’d stayed out long enough to finally stop thinking and breathe again.

On day two, the morning mist was heavy but as the sky began to lift, light broke through, the grey damp air was lifted away and colour returned. SKY LAND SEA
The South Downs is where sky, sea and land seem to dance together. As the weather and light changes so does your perspective. On minuet the sky is flooding in, then the hills step into focus, but out of the blue that sparkling sea is calling you. MIST FOR THE TREES
The mist one morning allowed the sky to swirl and dance. It swallowed hills, sea and everything on the ground.
