MEET THE ARTIST

“ Her lively palette and use of loose brushstrokes is what initially drew me to her painting...

but digging deeper it is clear to see the force and vitality that goes into the very physical process of painting. Georgia never sets out with a plan and lets the act of painting guide her. She embraces elements of chance by allowing her chosen media to dictate the direction, whilst also ensuring that materials are pushed to their limits, creating new and unexpected possibilities.

Her paintings are multi-layered, heavy with paint, from which she scrapes, wipes and sands to excavate the layers underneath. This uncovering is completely intuitive and often reveals a subconscious memory of a place once visited, a mountain, a beach, a landscape. Even though these are her memories, Georgia encourages us the viewer to see what we want to see, to create our own stories and journeys. “

ABOUT GEORGIA

Born; 1991 Buckinghamshire

Education; BA (hons) Illustration, Kent

Georgia worked as a freelance illustrator in Brighton for many years. After the birth of her daughter and a move to the countryside in Buckinghamshire (England), her studio practice shifted as she threw herself into painting expressive, energetic and larger works.

Georgia's contemporary landscape painting’s are bold and alive with movement. Inspired by vast, natural landscapes where she feels a great sense of freedom. She translates this fizzing energy onto the canvas back in the studio.

CREATION

Georgia relishes working on a large scale, using mops, brooms and discarded wood to shift the paint to its desired effect, building atmospheric, watery layers of paint contrasted by bold expressive marks.

“I begin my paintings intuitively”, Georgia says "I'm painting with emotion, freedom, the marks are fast and bold and colours are liberated. Pouring paint onto the canvas with no concept of the landscape and no intentions. Working on several blank canvases I move between them encouraging movement, energy and immediacy. Each layer responding to the previous marks. As the painting builds layer upon layer, the process slows down as I see a landscape emerging from the chaos. Utilising composition, colour and tone to persuade the viewer’s focus, I encourage this landscape to come through but never loose that boiling, wild energy of the painting’s underbelly - the boldness of the initial marks."
