Painting En Plein Air
Since October last year I've been pushing the bounderies of medium and how to capture that 'sense of place'. After months of sketching & creating small paintings outside, I finally let loose on some bigger pieces and I flipping loved it. Painting this (pictured above) out in the clearing when I walked through my local woods was so freeing.
There was so much colour from that yellow gorse hedge, the white grasses danced and the grass glowed vibrant green in the light. It was a beautiful evening, just responding to what we stumble across, surrounded by colours, shapes, sounds and texture.
I had the lovely company of Sarah Elliott who took these gorgeous photographs (another Elliott but not related funnily) and we talked all things life and motherhood. I do wonder if having company & conversation added to the energy of these marks, who knows.
My thinnest paint brush just wasn't capturing those thin, fluttering grasses how I wanted so I ended up using the grass itself which moved better than any tiny brush I'd ever tried.
